Below are 8 fun hip hop poses for pictures. If the dancer is wearing a costume that has a jacket or hat you can use that as a prop to help with posing and hand placement.
Hip Hop is all about attitude.
You want the dancer to have a little sass and show drama in the pictures.
They can have the option of either smiling or not but when posing its all about sharp and ridged posture.
As with all other types of dance, I would recommend you have the dancer start off in “first position” to help with balance and create a foundation to start the pose.
Let’s get started with 8 Hip Hop Poses for Pictures.
1 – Squat One Leg Out with Chin Rested on Hand
When it comes to the squatting position I always ask the dancer to stand up straight then spread feet apart a few feet. Then I have them take one step forward then drop to the ground resting their weight on the back foot. You then can position hand under chin
2 – Standing Weight on One Leg Arms Up
Have the dancer stand up straight then spread feet apart a few feet. Pop one foot up and have weight on the leg with the raised foot. Then bring both arms up and give a little attitude.
3 – Sitting Leg Cross Over
So this pose can be done with any age group. Just have the dancer sit “criss-cross apple sauce” and then raise one leg up. They can either wrap their arms around the raised leg or can just rest with arms crossed.
4 – Squat Arm Resting on Leg with Jacket Over Shoulder
This is another variation of the first pose and would go through the same steps to get the dancer in position. If the dancer has a jacket or accessory with costume have them drape over the shoulder with some attitude.
5 – Standing Crossed Arm Attitude
This pose is a classic. Anything position you have the dancer cross their arms gives a sense of attitude. Simply position feet and have them cross arms.
6 – Standing Leaning on One Leg
Have the dancer bend over with hip fully engaged. Then have them place one hand on hip and either smile or give sass.
7 – Standing Leaning Over with a Twist
For this pose, you want to have the dancer stand straight up and really spread feet apart past shoulder length. This will help them lean to one side and then place both hands on knees.
8 – Squat with Leg Out
To get in this position you want to first squat down, then kick one leg to the side and put all weight on the leg that is bent. Either rest both arms on lap or place on floor to help with balance.
Posing for dance pictures can be both fun and challenging with multiple variations and options.
